Ask Neo: What is Digitization?

Today somebody asked me the question on the definition of Digitization specific to computer projects.

So I went back to my seat and did my googling and found some simple paragraphs defining Project Digitization.

Definition #1

It is the process of converting information into a digital format. Scanners and digital cameras are examples of items used for digitization. Digitization converts materials from formats that can be read by people(analog) to a format that can be read only by machine. Examples : It makes scanning on the computer easier, and faster. Digital projects allow users to search collections rapidly and comprehensively from anywhere and time. You can find more about this by going to Digitization, what’s it all about.

Definition #2

Digitization means acquiring, converting, storing and providing information in a computer format that is standardized, organized and available on demand from common system. With specialized scanner’s, manuscripts are converted into compressed digital signals and stored systematically for future reference.

Anyone can go for digitization like a single document or any manuscripts if digitize can be viewed and handled simultaneously across the world

The process of Digitization is applied to all kind of project with a defined start and end time .

This is not  completely correct article so do verify this with other sources too
